About

Sea Urchin Films

Our goal is to create engaging and entertaining films that tell a unique story.  We have a clear ambition: to create bold, cinematic projects that punch far above their budget, and that sell.

As much as we love festivals, we ambition to be seen by the masses and not limit our reach to a festival run.

We are truly independent and welcome investors and collaborators.

Sea Urchin Films was created by Berty Cadilhac, an Australian-British-French filmmaker based in London.

Berty Cadilhac

Berty is the artistic drive behind Sea Urchin Films, which he created in 2013 to produce his first feature film, "Art Ache". Shot for $120K, this romantic comedy later sold to Disney+, which is a rare event for low budget productions.

Berty was born in Paris, and later acquired Australian and English citizenships.

His passion for storytelling and image led to explore a number of artistic practices, from photography to stand-up comedy, from writing and directing for theatre to writing and directing for film.

He learnt screenwriting and acting at NIDA in Sydney, Producing for film at AFTRS, and film directing during short courses at Raindance in London.

His style combines suspense and humour. There's a clear dual taste for absurd comedies on one hand, and darkness and tension on the other hand.

The Coen Brothers and Yorgos Lanthimos are amongst his favourite filmmakers and key influences.

Berty wrote and directed three feature films ("Tide", "Roller Squad" and "Art Ache"). He wrote one play in French ("Cuisine Diplomatique") and a TV Series ("Bouter les Anglais").
